The Osmania University Centre for International Programmes (OUCIP), Hyderabad, Telangana State, has organized a Two Day National Seminar on ”Media, Politics and Higher Education” from 29th – 30th August 2017.
Prof. A. Karunaker, Director, OUCIP welcomed all the guests and delivered the theme of the seminar.
Prof. M.Channa Basaviah, Director, ICSSR-SRC who was the Guest of Honour discussed the inclusion and exclusion of politics, media and higher education.
Dr. T. Hanuman Chowdary, Editor, Bharatiya Pragna the Chief Guest inaugurated the seminar. In his inaugural address he mentioned the latest statistics of universities in India including public and private sector. He explained the education system from KG to PG and the drawback in it. He further added that the degree holders are passing out every year in lakhs but the employment is zero. According to the latest UNESCO report he mentioned that the India contribute only 3.7% of papers in wolrd and highest is United States and China. He said the politics is mainly a vote bank building they are not keen in the development of society. He further concluded his discussion saying that to remove or abolish the caste system from India and substitute it with Samjika Vargam.
Dr. Madabhushi Sridhar Acharyulu, Commissioner, Central Information Commission, New Delhi, delivered the key note. In his address he pointed and supported the two speakers Prof. M. Channa Basaviah, Director, ICSSR-SRC and Dr. T. Hanuman Chowdary for the improvement of higher education system in India and transparency in politics. He requested all the politicians to accept the Right to Information Act passed in 2009 and give information related to them at the time of elections. He said the people who are genuine, honest and hard workers are not been recognized but people with influence has been honoured.

The introduction of media education has brought remarkable changes in the level of reception from the students. Especially, digitization of universities reduced both time and space in research. Multimedia and ICT proved to be effective tools in the world of education. The political climate in the higher education has been unstable in the recent past. Many untoward incidents have been witnessed in the academic corridors and media has played its role in bringing it to light. However the academia needs a strong support from media and politics to sustain its goals and establish itself as a hub of knowledge. The proposed seminar will focus on the impact of Media and politics in World of Education.

Shri. Saini Venkatesham, lawyer, freedom fighter and Social worker met Vice Chancellor Prof. S. Ramchandram today to institute a Gold Medal on his name, on the occasion of his 88th birthday.
This Gold Medal will be conferred to the topper of the Corporate Law Subject of LLB Course, Osmania University. He handed over a cheque of Rs 5.0 Lakhs to Vice Chancellor in presence of OU PG Law College Principal, Prof. Venkateshwarlu and members of Saini Venkatesham Charitable Trust.
Prof. S. Ramachandram said this amount will be deposited in bank and with its interest every year Gold medal will be awarded to the topper of Corporate Law Subject of LLB Department, Osmania University. He also said they award it in the Centenary convocation to be held in October 2017.
