Prof. T. Krishna Rao, Department of Philosophy and Principal, University College of Arts and Social Sciences has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty to Vice Chancellor, Osmania University. Earlier he served as principal, Arts College. He was also the Director of PG Admissions.
Prof. D. Ravinder, Department of Political Science and Principal, PG College Secunderabad is appointed as Principal, University College of Arts and Social Sciences in place of Prof. T. Krishna Rao.
Beena Chintalapuri, Professor of Psychology, formerly Registrar of Osmania University and Head Department of Psychology has been conferred “Ashoka Fellowship”. Ashoka innovators for the public is a Global Association of a leading Social Entrepreneurs. Rare men and women who possess the vision, creativity and extraordinary determination and who have the ability to devote to introducing new solutions to societal problems are selected.
Dr. Beena’s effort in building institutions is evidenced from establishment of training centre for the counselors who dealt with HIV/ AIDS clients under; SAKSHAM-GFATM-7 at Osmania University. Establishment of psychological counseling centre- SAHAYAM at Osmania University to a large extent serves campus community with regards to reducing anxiety, depression and of preventing Suicides. The centre also caters to psychological well being programme and peace education. As a Dean, Social Sciences, Satavahana University, Karimnagar and as a Director, Indian Council of Social Sciences Research- Southern regional centers (ICSSR-SRC) she successfully emphasized on academic programmes with special focus on research methodology and supported social sciences research in southern states. Ashoka carefully considered how her ideas and effort moved through series of steps towards making a difference in the lives of individuals who were part of campus community.
She continues to serve as the coordinator of Sahayam Counseling centre after retirement to extend counseling and training as outreach.
Currently, she is actively involved in bringing about reformation of Prison inmates under the programme called Unnati- Cognitive Behavioral change. Aim of Unnati is to reduce offending ideas, plans, decisions and behavior in the inmates.
Since, 2015 as part of ‘Mahaparivarthan’ an initiative by DG prisons of Telangana, Mr. V.K Singh (IPS) encouraged Unnati enormously. Dr Beena has been appointed Nodal Officer for Unnati. The programme is happening in 8 prisons of Telangana State. Her novel approach to social problem of crime reduction has already shown success in reducing recidivism.
In recognition of her work in the prisons she received ‘Shri Chinna Jeeyar Swamy Shasti Spoorthi award’ in 2016. Her contribution to teaching, research, publication and other services in Osmania University Government of Andhra Pradesh conferred ‘Andhra Pradesh state Best Teacher award’ in 2008.

Ltd., a world leader in Air Conditioning has set up a Center of Excellence in Air Conditioning in collaboration with University College of Engineering at Mechanical Engineering Department, Osmania University on October 10, 2017.. The Center of Excellence in Air Conditioning is a State of the Art Lab established to offer training to the students and technicians in the Air Conditioning field. The centre has been equipped with the state of the art refrigeration and air conditioning units for research and development purposes in the field of HVAC.
Prof S. Ramachandram, Vice Chancellor, Osmania University and Mr. Kanwal Jeet Jawa, MD & CEO, Daikin Air-Conditioning India Pvt. Ltd inaugurated the Center of Excellence in the presence of Prof Ch. Gopal Reddy, the Registrar, Osmania University. Top management of the Daikin Air-Conditioning India Pvt. Ltd have attended the program apart from University faculty and the students.
Prof P. Usha Sri , Head, Mechanical Engineering Department said that the Opening of Center of Excellence in Air conditioning is a big mile stone on Industry –Institute Interaction front. Prof. S. Sameen Fatima, Principal, University College of Engineering Congratulated the Department for the initiative which would go long way in building the skill set gap in the student community.
By introducing this centre of excellence, Mr. Jawa praised the city of pearls and said, “There would be a generation of about 1,00,000 jobs by 2020 in HVAC sector under the Make in India banner” He also said,” Skill development is the need of the hour and one must not wait for the things to happen. The industry is alive and continues to boom due to the innovation that comes from everyone and everywhere.”
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. S. Ramachandram said,” This C.O.E will bridge the industry institution interaction gap and strengthen it by many folds. This event stands as an example for the institutions to create skilled, determined, sincere and dedicated engineers to cater to the needs of the society.”
The registrar of Osmania University, Prof. Ch. Gopal Reddy, the signatory of MoU, said “The centre of excellence will result in dissemination of immense knowledge and skill in the field of Air Conditioning”
